Have you ever thought about free trade? Generally speaking, it pushes international division of labor and each country can improve its economy. Trade agreement including TPP aims for the notion. Then, TPP is one of the “Economic Partnership Agreement” called EPA. Also, many member countries are Southeast Asian which is familiar with Japan for trade, and Japan can strengthen the economical connection with them. According to NHK, TPP member countries count 12 countries and the total of GDP occupies 13% of global GDP. Then Japan is the largest exporter in TPP members. Therefore, I think joining the TPP was a good choice because Japan can import cheap crops, profit for business strategy, and get legal benefits.
First, Japan should join TTP because Japan can import cheap crops also export brand-name crops. There are concerns about rice producers might be damaged by importing cheap one. But Hiroki reports that its production capacity is improving also the duty is protected another ten years. Moreover, in the Japanese livestock industry, there is an interesting case. Brand-name meat tends to go overseas as “Wagyu” although consumption in Japan is not changing. Meanwhile, meat consumption from overseas is increasing. It helps aging of producers and increasing demand (Ikuya). But Corn's eaten by cattle food self-sufficiency is very low, so imports would be more convenient. Also, the income of people in developing countries is no longer low and Overseas Factories are at risk as corona showed. As reported by the Japanese Ministry of Economy Trade and Industry, factories return to Japan make, raising GDP, making employment, named “made in japan”, easy to manage it. Restrictions of foreign investment will be loosened by TPP so Japanese companies can go abroad and foreign companies can enter Japan. As investment increases, the technological capabilities of Japanese companies will also increase. Briefly, no Tariffs and Foreign investment by TPP can help revitalize countries.
Moreover, Japan can get legal benefits for TPP agreement. By TPP, 70 years of copyright protection is required to protect more rights. Cartoons and drugs are affected. Japanese abundant cartoons and technology will be protected. Next, ISDS clause is included. It means that companies can sue the state which interferes with the business without reason. Typically, a developed country is dominant for it (Takaaki 75). Also, "intra-regional origin ratio" rule is included. It means the only machine which consisted of a certain percentage of parts produced in TPP area can be labeled TPP products. Therefore, community trade will be active. So, Clause, Right, and Legal strengthen TPP advantages for Japan.
In conclusion, taking part in TPP was a good choice. There are many profits and helps by TPP. Japan produces famous industrial goods and brand-name crops for export. Moreover, no Tariffs can make factories move freely and investment will increase. I think it is important to negotiate trade agreements not to be detrimental. And transparent and Explanation is also needed for us.
